Beside Still Waters

The reference photo for this painting, was taken in Weatherford, Texas on the Moncrief Ranch. God leads us beside still waters when we thirst. Here in Texas, cows take it where they can get it, even a Texas sized tank will do. How much more should we take the peace of the still waters in our lives when God leads us beside them. ‘He leads me beside the still waters.’ – Psalm 23:2b

My Cup Overflows

This water tank is full and overflowing. A man made water tank always needs a lower side, to let excess water ‘overflow’, it helps to keep the integrity of it’s water holding ability. This tank is also overflowing because of the band of twelve thirsty horses that have stepped into it for a drink. In our lives we must overflow our borders to nourish those around us. ‘…you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.’ -Psalm 23:5b

Found'em In The Foothills

Found’em In The Foothills

This is one of my earlier paintings, this picture shows the cowboys running in an all out gallop toward the you! Their energy is exciting and it makes a little part of you want to cheer them on! Then you find yourself wondering, what are they after in such hot pursuit? As the title infers, they have found what they are looking for and are chasing it, at the time that I painted this I was learning that this is how we must pursue God, once we find Him we chase after Him. 2 Timothy 2:3 ‘…like a good soldier of Christ Jesus’

Making The Master's Mark

Making The Master’s Mark

This is a very special painting to me. It is one of my first colored pencil drawings and it won me over $9,000 in scholarship at the San Antonio Rodeo. But so much more than that it is a representation to me of Ephesians 1:13 ‘… when you believed you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit.’ Just as a rancher brands his cattle to claim them as his, so the Lord marks us with the Holy Spirit to claim us as His own.

He’s My Shepherd

There is no mistaking, this is the depiction of a cowboy’s tender side for his small helpless calves. This calf was born an hour before this moment, his momma had run off to join the main herd and he was still drying off. This little snowface calf is clearly relaxed and surrendered to his cowboy. In the presence of his shepherd, he does not want for anything. ‘The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.’ -Psalm 23:1

In Memory Of

In memory of two beloved mares, two of the best ranch horses, they will forever be in our hearts and on our minds. But the work goes on and the younger horses have to learn, but they will never replace these two….

Into The Shadows

Inspired by the ranching chore of bringing in the remuda, ‘Into the Shadows’ holds a special place in my heart. Someday, I hope to be on a working ranch where this is done every morning. When visiting Colorado on the Chimney Peak Ranch, I got to see this in person. It was so exciting to see the horses coming over the hill toward the corral. There was always the boss horse in the front and the cowboy in the back. Sometimes they galloped, sometimes they trotted, sometimes they just walked along. It reminded me of my walk with God. It can be unclear at times where to go in life, but God is always there influencing me in the right way. ‘Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil…’ -Psalm 23:4a
